With the continuous influx of donations from individuals and organisations to supplement the efforts of the Nigerian government in the fight against Covid-19, Port concessionaires of the Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN) say they are donating ₦700 million to the federal government to aid its efforts.
Speaking in Lagos, the STOAN Chairperson, Vicky Haastrup, said, ‘The world is facing its worst public health crisis in more than 100 years. This fight is not for the Federal or State Governments alone. The virus is an enemy that all of us must join hands together to fight.
‘I wish to commend the government and the Nigerian Ports Authority for rising up to the challenges posed by the pandemic and I pray that very soon, we will all sing songs of victory. Nigeria will triumph; humanity will triumph against this virus’.
She further said other donations of personal protective items including face masks, hand sanitisers, coveralls, infrared thermometers, and hand gloves were made to the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Customs Service, and other government agencies across the country.
She urged everyone to take responsibility by following safety guidelines and measures as instructed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC): regular handwashing, social distancing or the regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
