Civic Hive (CH) has asked state governments in Nigeria to publish details of how they have spent the Covid-19 relief funds they received from local and international donors.
Development Diaries gathered that the CH, in a statement signed by the Communications Associate at BudgIT, Iyanu Fatoba, said that the call was made to ensure that relief funds, meant to cushion the impact of the virus on citizens, are effectively spent.
It is understood that Lagos, Katsina, Oyo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Kaduna, Ogun, and Ekiti have all published their financial statements on Covid-19 relief funds, with CH urging other states to imbibe the culture of transparency and accountability.
BudgIT’s Principal Lead, Gabriel Okeowo, said, ‘To properly measure the effectiveness of the funds received by the state governments on Covid-19 response, states need to be totally transparent and accountable to its citizens by publishing detailed information of funds received and how these funds are being spent’.
CH is BudgIT’s civic innovation hub committed to raising civic tech leaders for transforming governance, social issues and creating intersections for civic engagements through technology.
