The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a 200,000-capacity yam storage facility in Benue State for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the National MSMEs Shared Facility Initiative.

This is in line with the government’s efforts and determination to support small businesses and encourage the growth of MSMEs in the country through the provision of much-needed infrastructure.

Located at the Zaki Biam International Yam Market, Benue, the facility aims to provide for the needs of businesses under a production cluster arrangement. The Special Assistant to the President on MSMEs, Tola Johnson, said that the facility will cater to MSMEs and smallholder farmers to mitigate the loss of revenues due to the lack of storage facilities.

The pilot scheme was inaugurated in Oyo (production of Shea butter, and the fashion industry) and Bauchi (production of groundnut oil and liquid/hand soap) by the Nigerian Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
