Executive Director of the NGO, Juliet Abajong, also said that the project, which is funded by Global Affairs of Canada, was launched to help empower women economically.

Ms Abajong said that the project would involve the traditional authorities in its advocacy strategies to eliminate some of the socio-cultural norms that prevent the progress of women.

She said the project would directly empower about 240 women and 720 women indirectly.

Ms Abajong said that although efforts had been made by various stakeholders to end gender-based discrimination, the phenomenon was still prevalent and underscored intensive advocacy strategies to make a greater impact in achieving gender parity.
