Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) has opened applications for the 2022 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.

Launched in 2014 by RAE, the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation awards crucial commercialisation support to ambitious African innovators developing scalable engineering solutions to local challenges.

RAE says it is harnessing the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone.

Benefits

  • The winner will receive £25,000
  • Three runners-up will receive £10,000 each
  • All shortlisted applicants will display their innovations at an exhibition at the final event in July 2022

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have developed or be in the process of developing a technological innovation
  • Applicants should have the ambition to take a leading role in creating a business to commercialise this innovation
  • Applications must be written in English
  • Lead applicant must be above the age of 18
  • Applicant can apply as an individual or as part of a team
  • The lead applicant must be a citizen of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
  • For teams of two or more, the lead applicant (the person participating in training) must be a citizen of a country in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Lead applicant must be based in sub-Saharan Africa; if based overseas, this must be temporary for studies or otherwise
  • Innovation must be based in a country in sub-Saharan Africa
