Christmas: Here Are Safety Tips to Consider

The Christmas period is here again, and it is a busy time of the year when people make plans to spend time with their loved ones, including travelling out of town.

With all of the activities of the festive season, many people could easily get carried away and forget to observe some vital safety measures, as criminals love the holidays as much as everyone else, mainly because it is an opportunity to execute crimes.

Here are some handy safety tips to keep in mind as you celebrate with family and friends this season.

Carry less cash around

During the holidays, people tend to carry around lots of cash due to the need to shop for goodies; but it is advisable to carry less cash around, as robbers are aware of this fact and might want to take advantage of the situation.

Do not leave items in car

When moving from place to place for holiday shopping, ensure you do not leave valuable items in your car. It is easy for criminals to break a window and steal from the car.

Do not give impression you are home

When away on a holiday trip, do not give the impression that your house is empty. Leave the security lights on before traveling and decorate your exterior with festive lights as these will make intending burglars think someone is home.

Do not announce moves on social media

Becoming conscious of what you put out on social media has become a useful security tip today. Yes, social media is a platform for networking, but some criminals are there to monitor people and burgle their homes or kidnap them.

Do not use ATMs at night

Using automated teller machines (ATMs) at night, especially during yuletide, is not advisable. This can make you an easy target for robbery.

Be watchful

When out with friends and family at social gatherings, it is important to keep an eye on your belongings, just in case there are suspicious movements around you.

Keeping all of these in mind during this period will help you stay security-conscious as you celebrate with loved ones.

Merry Christmas.
