CAR: AfDB Provides Public Sector Support

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has provided U.S.$5.3 million to the Central African Republic (CAR) to support capacity building for public officials and improve the management of public finances.

Development Diaries reports that the fund is aimed at contributing to the implementation of the Resource Mobilisation and Transparency of Development Policies Support project in the country.

Despite having a wealth of natural resources, according to World Bank data, CAR is one of the world’s poorest and most unstable countries.

CAR also ranked at the bottom of the human capital and development indices (188th out of 191 countries in 2022), with a population of about 6,100,000.

The World Bank data also revealed that the country’s institutions are weak, its citizens have limited access to basic services, and its infrastructure is terribly deficient.

The goal of the AfDB support is to increase resource mobilisation and make the administrative authorities more efficient in order to increase the tax base and build capacity to develop a policy on debt and effective management of public debt.
