The World Bank Group (WBG) is seeking to fill the position of Senior Environmental Policy Specialist.
The bank, with 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, works with public and private sector partners, invests in groundbreaking projects and uses data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges.
The WBG consists of five specialised institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Responsibilities
- Support maintenance, in coordination with CEG and CES risk officers, of IFC’s policies and procedures, including any updates of the sustainability policy and performance standards
- Support the development and implementation of a training and accreditation strategy for investment staff, advisory staff and environmental and social staff in collaboration with the knowledge and learning teams in CEG and IFC’s credit departments
- Work with CEG in maintaining and implementing a pipeline of knowledge products (guidance and tools) to support effective environmental and social risk management by IFC staff as well as external stakeholders
- Represent CES and IFC in internal and external fora, including with other multilateral and development banks to align policies and with civil society groups providing feedback on policies
Requirements
- Graduate/advanced degree in Environment, Social or related disciplines
- Fifteen years, minimum, of relevant experience in environmental and social risk management, investment and sustainable investment policies
- Knowledge of policies describing investor commitment to good international industry practice for private sector management of environmental and social risks, including IFC’s sustainability framework and performance standards
- Experienced developing environmental and social policies (including analysis, formulation, drafting, consultation, consensus building and roll-out/implementation) preferred
- Experience in designing and delivering training on good practice in environmental and social risk management preferred
- Ability to think strategically, analyse and synthesise diverse information sources
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely in spoken and written English is essential
- Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills, including the ability to relate well with a wide range of internal and external parties and develop solutions in potentially tense or conflicting situations
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, organise and prioritise deliverables, and maintain attention to detail
