The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Senior Advisor Gender-based Violence.
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
Responsibilities
- Strategic advice, monitoring and oversight
- Capacity development and coordination of south-south cooperation initiatives
- Evidence and knowledge development and dissemination of use
- Management and coordination of knowledge networks
- Representation, advocacy and partnership development
Requirements
- University degree in Social Sciences, Social Anthropology, Law and Women’s Rights, Sociology, Gender, Cultural Studies, or other relevant areas
- Postgraduate degree is an asset
- Ten years, minimum, of professional experience in the substantive area, of which seven years at the international level
- Knowledge and understanding of the human rights-based approach is essential
- Experience in gender mainstreaming and programming for women’s development is essential
- Experience in culturally sensitive programming is essential
- Experience in managing, advising and supporting a comprehensive response to GBV is essential
- Experience in addressing gender and social equity issues in reproductive health and population issues is essential
- Knowledge and experience of working in areas related to harmful practices is an asset
- Strong track record of technical leadership and proven ability to produce demonstrable results
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to network within the academic and development community
- Expert in policy dialogue and high level advocacy (desirable)
- Knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is an asset
- Fluency in English
