United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking to fill the role of Project Manager, Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding.

UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure overall management functions for the project implementation and coordinate programme and operations for coherent delivery of results of the UN implementing agencies (UNDP, IOM and WFP)
  • Work under the overall guidance of the steering committee and direct supervision of the deputy resident representative (programme and operations) of UNDP in Mozambique on project management, programme delivery and technical advice on a regular basis as needed
  • Report and advise the project’s steering committee in regular and extraordinary meetings and communications according to the requirements established in the Terms of Reference of the steering committee and other relevant documents related to project
  • Inform progress and provide technical advice on crisis management, conflict prevention, security sector engagement and peacebuilding issues to the UNCTs and national counterparts
  • Provide advice and facilitate coordination among stakeholders to reinforce the humanitarian-development-peace nexus

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, Public Administration, Political Science, Social Affairs, or a related field
  • PhD or another advanced degree will be considered an asset
  • Seven years, minimum, of relevant work experience in peacebuilding, security sector engagement, conflict prevention, crisis management
  • Proven experience in project management and coordination in peace-related areas
  • Proven experience in analytical work, technical advice, policy development and dialogue with UN agencies, government institutions and relevant stakeholders
  • Knowledge of cultural, social, political and economic backgrounds of Mozambique and Tanzania including their border dynamics, bilateral relations and regional dialogue
  • Experience in managing similar cross-border projects will be an asset
  • Experience in managing projects using UNDP’s policies, procedures and systems will be an asset
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Good knowledge of Portuguese (highly preferred)
  • Knowledge of any local language is an asset
