United Nations (UN) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Economic Affairs Officer.

Responsibilities
- Monitor economic developments in relation to social and health policies and identify recurrent and emerging issues of concern to the UN
- Design and conduct studies of social and health issues in economic development and draft resulting reports
- Interpret and apply results of econometric modelling to analysis of economic prospects and policies related to Africa’s social and health priorities
- Develop draft policy recommendations pertaining to social and health development in Africa
- Formulate proposals for development strategies, policies and measures for presentation to intergovernmental bodies and others
- Attend international, regional, and national meetings to hold discussions with representatives of other institutions
- Organise expert group meetings, seminars, etc, on key social and health development issues
- Prepare speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff
- Provide substantive support on economic issues to intergovernmental bodies
- Represent organisational unit at international, regional and national meetings
- Design and monitor technical cooperation projects related to social and health development in Africa
- Undertake missions to member states, either alone or as a participant in a diverse team, as part of the organisation’s technical cooperation activities
- Prepare global, regional, national or sector economic analyses that provide a basis for advising national governments on social and health development issues
- Conduct training seminars and workshops for government officials and others
- Formulate technical modalities for the evaluation of individual technical cooperation projects
- Support junior staff, reviewing their work and providing feedback
- Participate in intra- and inter-departmental undertakings of broader concern to represent the views or interests of the organisational unit
- Perform other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s service
- Undertake on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree, doctorate degree, or equivalent) in Economics or a related field
- First-level degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a related field with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
- Seven years, minimum, of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, and application of economic principles in development programmes or a related area
- Experience in undertaking policy research in the areas of social and health development (desirable)
- Experience in undertaking quantitative economic analysis (desirable)
- Experience in technical assistance delivery to member states (desirable)
- Work experience in the African region (desirable)
- Fluency in either English or French
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
