Plan International is seeking to fill the position of Grants Accountant.

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to programme and operations staff regarding donor requirements including donor specific requirements and all contractual obligations mentioned in the donor contract and FAD
  • Enforce the application of Plan International’s SOPs during project implementation by training, giving guidance and advice to project teams on how to implement the SOPs
  • Assess current contracts, systems, and procedures against donor requirements and develop tools and processes to support contract readiness and compliance across the organisation
  • Assist in the interpretation and dissemination of contract policy changes in a timely and user-friendly manner throughout the agency
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure grant burn rates are in order and project activities are completed within the project implementation period
  • Review project financial reports to ensure accuracy and conformity to donor requirements and expectations
  • Ensure all reportable expenses are included in the report and any discrepancies explained
  • Assist project teams to explain variances and respond to queries concerning the financial reports
  • Work with the NOs grants/programme directors/officers, as needed, to ensure there is a strong understanding of project implementation and compliance issues and ensure there is a strong communication flow

Requirements

  • University degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting with certificate in Audit or Donor Compliance
  • Five years, minimum, of relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working on multilateral and bilateral donors’ grants and contracts
  • Proven expertise in interpreting and applying statutory and regulatory language in executing awards and contracts from donor entities and in maintaining a current knowledge of changes in the language, application and enforcement of this language
  • Understanding of professional business standards
  • Experience with contracts’ compliance will be a plus
  • Experience in organisational problem solving, operations, high performance management in complex organisations
  • Positive thinker and collaborative problem solver
  • Experience with large international nonprofits preferred
  • Strong interpersonal relations, teambuilding and communication skills
  • Experience providing compliance training in a multicultural setting
