Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking to fill the role of Natural Resources Officer.

FAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyse technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology-related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services
  • Produce a variety of technical information, data, statistics and reports as well as input for technical documents and web pages
  • Provide technical support/analysis to various assessments, studies and initiatives and provide technical backstopping to field projects
  • Collaborate in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams 
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promote best practices
  • Provide technical backstopping to and ensure the quality/effectiveness of capacity development activities within member countries 
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influence partners in stakeholder consultations
  • Support resource mobilisation activities in accordance with the FAO corporate strategy

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Environmental Science, Forestry or Natural Resource Management, Forest Economics, Forest Engineering, or a related field
  • Five years, minimum, of relevant experience in forestry development, natural resources management, climate change, forestry or natural resources management in developing countries
  • Competency in establishing and maintaining partnerships and raising funds, preferably funding from the Green Climate Fund and/or the Global Environment Facility
  • Experience in the formulation and implementation of climate change and forestry management projects
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
