The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is seeking to fill the role of Technical Advisor, Biodiversity.
FAO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
Responsibilities
- Develop, write, technically edit and proofread pre-session and background documents, reports, publications and work plans
- Provide technical and logistical support to the secretariat, for example, by communicating with experts, national focal points and international organisations, and organising internal (FAO) and external review process for documents
- Provide support to the secretariat for the organisation of technical and intergovernmental meetings and in the finalisation of documents that may arise as a follow-up to such meetings
- Liaise with relevant FAO units and other organisations relevant to the assignment to obtain guidance and advice on specific elements
- Prepare concept notes and project proposals for donors
Requirements
- Advanced university degree for consultants/university degree personal services agreement in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Social Sciences, Law, Environment and/or Economic Sciences, Nutrition or a related field
- One year, minimum, of experience for base-level consultants, and five years, minimum, of experience for middle-level consultants working in areas tied to genetic resources and biodiversity for food and agriculture, and management of inter-governmental and/or technical meetings
- Experience in genetic resources for food and agriculture
- Ability to formulate, draft and finalise clear technical and policy documents, guidelines and manuals in English
- Knowledge of developments in other relevant international fora and the capacity to conduct technical and policy analysis of ongoing processes on biodiversity and genetic resources
- Knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of Arabic, Chinese or Russian
