Zimbabwe: HRC Donates Books to Nursing School

The Harare Rotary Club (HRC) has donated medical books worth US$30,000 to Sally Mugabe School of Nursing and Midwifery in Zimbabwe.

Development Diaries gathered that the books were sourced from Rotary Club of Fresno in California, United States of America.

The books cover hospital management, clinical medicines, anaesthetics, dermatology and midwifery.

Former president of the club Tember Banda said his organisation was committed to sourcing more donations from their international partners to help local medical institutions.

‘We will continue to work to obtain more resources for our medical institutions and their training organisations from our partners abroad’, he said.

Banda stated that every nurse and midwife training institution in the country will be getting the consignment.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the institution, the acting Chief Executive of the school, Dr Christopher Pasi, said that the books will greatly enhance learning.

‘We have had to bear the pain of trying to produce well-groomed nurses and midwives with little resources, but we are grateful for the kind gesture’, Pasi said.

Acting Director of Nursing Services, Dr Lillian Dodzo, said, ‘To us, that is a positive development.

‘Nurses and midwives are an important component in the primary health care model we adopted.

‘This gesture will go a long way in transforming the training of these important groups of professionals in our health care system’.

Rotary is a global institution that consists of over 35,000 clubs across the world that work together to promote peace and education.
