UNICEF representative in Tunisia, Marilena Viviani, and the country’s Minister of Social Affairs, Mohamed Trabelsi, have signed an agreement that will grant a monthly bonus to 320,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds for eight months.
Development Diaries understands that the project will be financed by the German Development Bank as part of the implementation of a project concerning the national platform on social protection.
‘This initiative aims to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds’, Trabelsi told journalists.
It is understood that the children poverty rate in Tunisia has reached 25 percent, exceeding the national average.
Trabelsi called for the adoption of the bill on the national platform for social protection, under which all citizens will benefit from social protection by 2025.
According to the UNICEF representative, Viviani, the project aims to help disadvantaged Tunisian families, especially during the start of the school year, especially considering the health crisis in the country.
