The Gambia: HGCF Provides Medical Items

Helping Gambian Children Foundation (HGCF) has presented medial items worth D30,000 to Njongon Community Clinic in the Lower Nuimi District, The Gambia.

Development Diaries understands that the items were presented to the clinic to help scale up its activities amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Gambia’s health sector is understood to have over the years been under great pressure due to high population growth rate, inadequate financial and logistic support, and shortage of adequately trained health personnel, according to the Global Health Workforce Alliance.

Development Diaries understands that The Gambia’s National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2014–2020 (NHSSP) guides health care in the nation with the aim of reducing inequalities in health care services and reverse the downward trend in health-related outcome indicators.

President of HGCF, Abdoulie Bah, thanked the people of Njongon community for their cooperation and efforts towards the development of the clinic.

According to him, his foundation plans to support the clinic with medical items once in two months.

‘We wanted to do more but as a result of the [Covid-19] pandemic we could only get the clinic the donated items’, he said.

A Community Health Nurse (CHN) and Midwife, Tumbul Manneh, thanked the foundation for the kind gesture, saying that the donation came at the right time.
