The Gambia-based advocacy group, Golden Bee Revolution (GBR), has been nominated for the 2021 Humanitarian Award Global (HAG).
Organisers of the HAG, which recognises non-governmental organisations (NGOs), volunteer leaders, donors, organisations, and philanthropists advancing charity work, announced the 2021 nominees during a virtual concert.
GBR and 21 other humanitarian organisations, including Akosua Agyapong Mensah, Amarkine Amarh, Barimah TV, Bless Defenu, and Delkom Charity Foundation, made the list of nominees for the Volunteer Group of the Year.
Winners, according to the organisers, will be announced at an event on 04 September, 2021, in Accra, Ghana.
‘This is a great achievement. An event that is said to celebrate individuals and/or groups that render humanitarian support in the world’, Chief Executive Officer of GBR, Alagie Suwareh, said.
‘You [do not] have to be wealthy to play a role in nation building. However, patriotism plays a significant role in that aspect’.
GBR initiated several projects, including GoFundMe, to help ailing citizens travel abroad for treatment.
The advocacy group also embarked on public sensitisation, including Covid-19 awareness campaign, and women empowerment projects.
In March, GBR partnered with Kanifing Municipal Council, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and other stakeholders to implement civic and voter education within KMC that lasted for two months.
