Ebou Mala’s Children Charitable Foundation (EMCCF) has handed over essential items to the Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS).
EMCCF, in partnership with the United Kingdom National Police Aid Charity, donated items such as 30 boxes of blankets, 153 bales of cloths, two boxes of underwear and 274 chairs.
The foundation said the items were provided to assist vulnerable children with essential materials that will help them have a greater voice in school and the community.
According to the World Bank, children in The Gambia achieve only 40 percent of their full potential. The situation is mainly due to the high level of poverty, leading to inadequate access to basic health and educational services.
EMCCF Secretary-General Samba Bah said the aim of the foundation was to help alleviate the suffering of children and their families.
‘EMCCF is motivated to complement the gains of the government and existing organisations to better prepare children for the task of personal achievement with enthusiasm, competence, professionalism and above all, efficiency’, he said.
Bah commended the GRCS for their efforts to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, hoping that the materials would help the next generation of The Gambians.
Secretary-General of The Gambia Red Cross Society, Alasan Senghore, commended the foundation for the donation, saying that the items would go a long way in helping children in need.
He noted that the donation was very important as the country was challenged due to Covid-19 and its secondary effects.
