Beauty Legacy Tanzania, in partnership with the France Embassy in the country, has provided a children library at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI).
Development Diaries reports that the library facility was launched by the country’s Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dorothy Gwajima.
Founder of Beauty Legacy Tanzania, Jacqueline Mengi, said that the library would enable children receiving treatment to catch up with studies for the time they are at the hospital.
‘Apart from this library, we have also mobilised equipment for premature babies, these will be handed over in the near future’, she said.
She encouraged other Tanzanians and development partners to keep supporting development of the health sector.
As for the minister, Gwajima, this initiative reflects the vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is a champion of community development and children affairs.
‘My ministry is always open to receiving the support from development partners. The sole aim is to work together for the greater interest of the whole nation’, Gwajima said.
She also said, ‘The facility of this kind is also needed at the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) in Dodoma and all other zonal hospitals’.
Also speaking, the Ambassador of France to Tanzania, Frederic Clavier, said that his country would continue to provide the needed support in the battle against cardiac and cancer diseases.
‘The government of France is working closely with the MNH and JKCI… I am optimistic that this partnership will provide better results in the health of Tanzanians’, he said.
‘The aim is to save the lives of the patients and bring hope to their families… it is very important to support children who are in a difficult situation’.
Beauty legacy Tanzania, which was launched in September 2020, aims to bring together beauty queens in Tanzania and fundraise for two major causes: provision of modern mobile libraries for children at various hospitals, and equipment for preterm babies.
