Sudan: SRCS Distributes Diagnostic Devices

The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) says it has implemented a number of projects and activities in Merowe, Al-Daba, and AL Burgab areas.

SRCS, it was gathered, implemented the projects in collaboration with Sudan’s Ministry of Health and Social Development.

SRCS Manager Sami Mahdi said in a statement that the activities were focused on health education and health consolidation programmes provided by volunteers.

He noted that the humanitarian organisation distributed diagnostic devices and refrigerators, as well as 1,000 mosquito nets at Merowe and Al-Daba localities.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) had in September launched an additional funds appeal for 12 million Swiss Francs to support the SRCS in delivering assistance to people affected by flooding.

‘The magnitude of the flooding disaster is unprecedented. The situation is getting worse as water continues to rise by the hour, covering new areas and causing more devastation’, IFRC quoted president of the SRCS, Elfadil Eltahir, as saying.

‘To cope with this dire situation, more humanitarian assistance is badly and urgently needed in order to alleviate the suffering of those affected, by protecting their health, life and dignity’.
