Sudan: SAF’s Bombing of Nuba Village School Condemnable

Sudan war

The recent killing of schoolchildren and teachers in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan by the Sudanese Air Force (SAF) is condemnable, and those responsible for this disregard for civilian lives must face the law.

Development Diaries reports that 11 students and two teachers were killed during an air raid by the Sudanese Air Force on El Hadra village.

According to media reports, four bombs were dropped, which hit the water pump area and the El Hadra village school. We also understand that the air raids caused the displacement of about 100 families from the village.

The number of people displaced by conflict since April 2023 has reached 8.1 million.

Children continue to bear the brunt of the war, as many have been reportedly killed, while others are battling with the humanitarian crisis of the situation.

‘The Committee on the Rights of the Child has observed repeated attacks on civilians and civilian objects, widespread killings, including ethnically motivated, and the deaths of thousands of civilians, many of whom are children’, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child said in a statement.

The SAF is undermining the international humanitarian laws that ensure the safety of civilians.

The authorities in Sudan must ensure those responsible for the air strike are investigated and made to face the consequences of their actions.

Development Diaries reiterates its call to the authorities in Sudan to respect international humanitarian laws and ensure civilians are not counted among the casualties of the war.
