Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has called on all armed groups in and around El Geneina region of Sudan to respect international humanitarian laws.
Development Dairies reports that around 15,000 Sudanese refugees have fled West Darfur State into the Chadian town of Adré in the last four days, with many reports of people trying to escape getting shot and killed.
More than 5,000 people have been killed and about 8,000 wounded in West Darfur as of 12 June.
The fighting that started on 15 April between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum has escalated as youth groups from different tribes now engage in inter-communal violence.
With many fleeing the region, eyewitness accounts report mass killings, displacements, looting and dead bodies in the streets.
It is understood that people were getting shot at by snipers for trying to get clean water from natural sources.
Women and girls are also being subjected to rape and other forms of sexual and gender-based violations.
‘The level of violence has been escalating and people fear being targeted or exposed to violence’, MSF’s Project Coordinator in Adré, Chad, Konstantinos Psykakos, said in a statement.
MSF called on the warring parties to spare civilians and allow humanitarian teams access to those in need.
