Executive Director of Trust Blu Foundation, Bianca Lima-Boekhoud, has advised corporates in South Africa to rethink how they work with non-profit organisations (NPOs).
Lima-Boekhoud gave the advice following reports that many nonprofits in South Africa are struggling to operate at full capacity because a number of corporate and private sponsors had cut back on funding due to Covid-19.
‘Whether they focus on poverty relief, education, health care, gender-based violence or socio-economic challenges, nonprofits need support more than ever’, Sandton Chronicle quoted her as saying.
Lima-Boekhoud also said, ‘They [nonprofits] have the intellectual capital and experience needed to deliver the outcomes, provided they get access to the right support and resources’.
Lima-Boekhoud noted that while many in the corporate sector understand that it may take businesses a few years to break even, NPOs that fail with a creative campaign or programme often lose credibility and funding.
