Social Intervention: How Orphanage Children Benefit from Thelema Lion Foundation Donation

Thelema Lion Foundation

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Thelema Lion Foundation, has donated food items, toiletries and other essentials to the Gifted and Talented Orphanage Home in the Federal Capital Territory to support the welfare of the children.

Development Diaries reports that the donation was made as part of the foundation’s annual outreach to less privileged children, at a time when many orphanage homes are struggling with rising food costs and economic hardship.

Nigeria is facing a serious food and nutrition crisis, driven by rising food prices, conflict, and economic hardship. The United Nations warns that up to 35 million Nigerians could be at risk of hunger in 2026, including millions of children suffering from severe malnutrition, highlighting the scale of the challenge communities and care homes face.

Speaking during the visit, the founder of the foundation, Ifeoma Agu, said the organisation carries out several humanitarian activities every year, with visits to orphanage homes forming a key part of its work.

‘We normally visit less privileged orphanage homes every January’, Agu said. ‘We decided to come here because we wanted to see the children and put smiles on their faces’.

She noted that the foundation deliberately targets orphanage homes located outside city centres, where support is often limited.

Agu added that the Gifted and Talented Orphanage caters for more than 30 children, making feeding and daily care challenging, especially in the current economic situation.

She also encouraged Nigerians and organisations to support humanitarian causes, stressing that giving does not have to be large to make an impact.

On her part, the founder of the Gifted and Talented Orphanage Home, Gift Nwosu, said the home has been in existence for 11 years and is driven by her passion for caring for children. She noted that visits and donations from individuals and organisations are occasional, and that the home largely relies on goodwill to survive.

She appealed to government and members of the public to support orphanages by assisting in any way they can.

Some of the children at the orphanage also expressed appreciation to the foundation for the donated items.

The donated items included foodstuff and toiletries, among others.
