Sierra Leone: PWS Donates Insecticide-treated Nets

Prison Watch Sierra Leone (PWS) has donated Insecticide-treated nets to the Freetown Female Correctional Centre, local news outlets report.

The donation, it was gathered, was made possible with support from the malaria control programme of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

Programme Manager at PWS, Ahmed Salieu Jalloh, said that the bed nets were donated following a request from the inmates.

‘We know this is small but we believe it serves a good number of the inmates in various centres across the country’, Jalloh said.

The Commanding Officer at the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mrs Irene Sesay, who received the donation, applauded Prison Watch for donating the bed nets.

She said, ‘Mosquitoes will no longer bite the inmates and we hope and pray that the partnership with Prison Watch Continues.

‘Prison watch is always in our midst and they continue to give a helping hand to the centre’.

The NGO, which was established in 1996, monitors and reports on prisons and detention conditions and provides training for detention officers and civil society members on human rights.
