On Nuhu Ribadu’s Blame Game Comments

Instead of addressing Nigeria’s economic woes, the President Bola Tinubu administration has resorted to playing the blame game.

Development Diaries reports that the National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu, recently claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, left Nigeria bankrupt before.

He said, ‘Yes, we’re facing budgetary constraints. It is okay for me to tell you. Fine, it is important for you to know that we inherited a difficult situation, literally a bankrupt country, no money, to a point where we can say that all the money we’re getting now, we’re paying back what was taken. It is serious!’

While acknowledging challenges and setbacks is essential, President Tinubu and his team must understand that it is equally important for a leader to actively seek solutions and demonstrate a commitment to overcoming obstacles.

The president sought votes to be in office; he was not forced to be there. This means he intentionally asked to be put in charge of the nation’s woes to find solutions, not give excuses.

As an elected leader, he bears the profound responsibility of leading a nation and fulfilling the promises made during the electoral campaign.

When citizens cast their votes, they do so with the expectation that the elected leader will actively work towards the betterment of the country.

Excuses regarding performance can undermine the public’s trust and erode the legitimacy of the democratic process.

President Tinubu and his team must recognise that the mandate given by the electorate comes with an implicit contract to deliver on campaign pledges and address the concerns of the citizens.

Giving reasons instead of measurable outcomes might cause voters to become dissatisfied, potentially weakening the foundation of democracy and the legitimacy of the political system as a whole.

Development Diaries calls on President Tinubu and his team to focus on getting the work done instead of making excuses and playing the blame game like the previous administration.
