The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the election of Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun State, southwest Nigeria.
Development Diaries reports that the apex court ruled that former governor Gboyega Oyetola and his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), failed to prove their case of improper accreditation of voters and over-voting against Adeleke.
The five-member panel of the court held that the court of appeal correctly reinstated Adeleke as governor, adding that the appeal of the APC lacked merit.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in July 2022 declared Adeleke as the winner of the Osun governorship election after the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 403,371 votes to defeat the incumbent governor at the time, Oyetola, who polled 375,027 votes.
Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi, took their oaths of office, which were administered by the Osun State Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, on 27 November., 2022
Recall that in his inaugural speech, Adeleke reiterated his promise to correct all past injustice, corrupt acts or policies by any previous administration which are against the collective interest of the people.
Also, the governor specifically promised to address issues in the education, health, and agricultural sectors.
Development Diaries reiterates its call to the people of Osun State to ensure that they track, monitor and report the delivery of the governor’s campaign promises.
