Olumide Idowu Urges Personal Safety

The daily updates on Covid-19 cases around the world can be a lot to take in, especially the number of deaths recorded daily, and as the world continues to battle the disease, a pandemic of misinformation must also be checked to avoid deadly suggestions of a possible cure and to prevent widespread fear and public unrest.

With the directives of Nigerian federal and state governments extending stay-at-home orders across major cities, the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the International Climate Change Development Initiative, Olumide Idowu, has urged Nigerians to remain calm.

Olumide wrote on his Facebook timeline, ‘The best way to respond to this pandemic is to maintain a sense of calm and hope. It can be difficult with the influx of daily news that causes anxiety. But we must, for our sanity, listen to what the experts tell [us], not those who [monger fear]’.

Olumide also gave advice on handling the Covid-19 crisis in cases where symptoms begin to manifest. In his post, he said, ‘Stay at home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority’.

As we all brace ourselves to fight the Covid-19’s spread and effects, we must jealously guard both our physical and mental well-being as they are both vital to our existence.
