Nigerian Newspapers: Key Demands for Government Action | Thursday 24th April, 2025

Nigerian Newspapers

Here is a roundup of some Nigerian newspaper headlines, accompanied by our advocacy-driven demands for government action in addressing citizens’ concerns.

1. Vanguard: Insecurity: Enough is Enough, President Tells NSA, Security Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has told the National Security Advisor (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and other security chiefs that ‘enough is enough’.

Our Take: It is expected that security agencies move beyond promises and take swift, coordinated action to restore peace and protect lives across Nigeria. The President’s directive must mark a turning point; Nigerians deserve visible, measurable results, not rhetoric. Every community affected by violence must feel the presence of a government committed to their safety.

2. Daily Trust: Patients Stranded as Workers Strike Cripples FCT PHCs

Daily Trust has reported that many patients across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been left stranded as operations at primary healthcare centres have been brought to a halt due to a workers’ strike.

Our Take: We call on the chairmen of the six Area Councils of the FCT to act without delay and commence implementation of the minimum wage for health workers and also ensure improvements in working conditions and infrastructure, which is a public health necessity.

3. The Guardian: Hurdles for Opposition Parties as APC Wins More Governors, Others

Like a pack of cards, the embattled main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) started collapsing yesterday, when incumbent Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and his immediate predecessor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, laid speculations to rest by defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Our Take: With the growing trend of political defections and weakening opposition, citizens must recognise the critical role they play in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy. We call on citizens to stay informed, question the motives behind political moves, and demand issue-based leadership that prioritises public interest over personal ambition. Active engagement is the only way to ensure that political power remains accountable to the people.
