Out-of-school children threat to national security – Daily Trust

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for a concerted effort to tackle the out-of-school children crisis in the country, saying that children “abandoned to the streets are a liability that the nation will one day pay for.”

We call on the Federal Ministry of Education to work with state governors to urgently address the out-of-school children crisis, recognising it as not only an educational failure but a looming national security threat.

Petrol Price Hike: NACCIMA, PDP, Atiku, CSOs, others insist on reversal – Vanguard

Opposition against the hike in petrol price by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, yesterday, swelled as the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, civil society organizations, CSOs, among others, insisted on the immediate reversal of the price increase to the old regime.

As Nigerians grapple with the crippling effects of the recent petrol price hike, we urge President Bola Tinubu, in his capacity as the nation’s petroleum minister, to prioritise the welfare of the people by immediately reversing the price increase. This will not only ease the economic burden on citizens but also restore public confidence in the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

The National Union of Local Government Employees on Thursday said it wouldn’t rule out seeking redress in court should the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, or other governors introduce bills to frustrate the Supreme Court judgment on direct allocation of funds to LGAs.

We call on Governor Soludo and other state governors to focus on empowering local governments to fulfill their mandate rather than seeking ways to circumvent judicial decisions.

Reps kick against multiple tax burdens on Nigerians – The Guardian

House of Representatives has called on the authorities to guard against imposition of unnecessary and multiple taxes on the citizenry, particularly on essential goods and services.

We urge the President Tinubu-led administration to take decisive action in alleviating the burden of multiple and unnecessary taxes on Nigerians, especially on essential goods and services. We call on the president to prioritise tax reforms that promote fairness, ease of doing business, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, while ensuring that the tax system is simplified, transparent, and designed to stimulate, rather than hinder, the nation’s economic recovery.
