Nigeria: Youth Observatory Report on Collection of Permanent Voters’ Card

As part of its determination to track and monitor trends on youth participation in Nigerian elections, Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA) launched a youth observatory on political participation.

The youth observatory was deployed in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections and the 2014 National elections in South Africa. Through the observatory instrument, YIAGA provides empirical data and evidence to enhance the quality of youth participation in electoral processes.

In furtherance of the core mandate of deepening electoral democracy in Nigeria and youth political participation, YIAGA conducted a Young Voters Poll on the Permanent Voters Card distribution exercise in Nigeria. The objective of the survey was three-fold:

Ascertain whether or not young people are collecting their Permanent Voters Cards

Investigate their motivations for collecting the Permanent Voters Cards

Identify the challenges encountered by young people in collecting their Permanent Voters Cards

The report contains very useful information on how young people are preparing to participate in Nigeria’s 2015 general elections.
