Nigeria: YMTUF Stages Christmas Party for CLWDs

As Christians across the world celebrate Christmas, You Matter To Us Foundation (YMTUF) has reached out to children with special needs in Surulere, Mushin, Idimu and Ogudu in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) organised Christmas party for them as the NGO marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPDs).

The United Nations theme for the 2020 IDPD is ‘Building Back Better: Towards a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post Covid-19 World’.

Development Diaries understands that the Lagos-based foundation is driven by the vision to create exciting opportunities for children living with disabilities and the underprivileged in Nigeria.

Founder of the foundation, Omolara Ajetunmobi, said, ‘We are doing this to promote inclusiveness because every child matters and deserves equal right to access the world’.

Nollywood actors Kunle Remi and Ireti Osayemi worked with the foundation in cheering up the children.

In her address, Osayemi called for more support for the empowerment of learners, especially children with disabilities, and capacity building for their teachers.

‘The theme for the event, which is in its fifth edition, is ‘Remembering the special [children] this season’. We will like everyone to know that our society is incomplete without children living with disability’, she said.

It was learnt that 600 children with special needs received educational items such as schoolbags and exercise books.

According to the foundation, since its establishment, it has visited children with disabilities and orphanages in over ten local government areas, impacting more than 25,000 children.
