Nigeria: WNA Conducts Life-Skill Training in Edo

Wealth Nation Agenda (WNA) has started empowering 500 youths with life skills in each of the 18 local government areas of Edo State, southern Nigeria, the NGO’s president has said.

WNA President Godwin Ovu is confident the training will complement the efforts of the government in reducing crime and criminality in the state.

He made this known at the NGO’s ‘Taking the youth off the street’ workshop in Benin City.

Development Diaries understands that Nigeria’s unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2020 stands at 27.1 percent, indicating that about 21,764,614 Nigerians remain unemployed, according to recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

‘From the things we have seen in our society, the youths are protesting because they need their rights and have not been carried along for too long’, he said.

‘So, what we have decided to do as an organisation is to bridge the gap between the youths and the government, and also every well-meaning citizen of Nigeria.

‘We want to train and empower the youths for a life skill such as fashion designing, welding and fabrication, volcanising, computer, among others’.

He gave the assurance of engaging the participants immediately after the training through the donation of starter-packs to enable them to use their newly developed skills.

‘After their training, we are going to empower them with take-off grant to start up with something. The grant ranges from 30,000 to 50,000. The kind of skills learnt will determine the amount we will be given [to the participants]’, he added.
