In a bid to promote equal opportunities in education, the Sustainable Community and Advancement Partners (SCAP) has launched the Write the Future (WTF) Initiative in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The Write the Future initiative, according to the not-for-profit organisation, is designed to promote equal opportunities in education for the Nigerian child, especially for those from middle-income and low-income families.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative at the Junior Secondary School, Gosa, SCAP Chief Executive Officer, Ojooluwa Ibiloye, said SCAP was paying attention to challenges in remote communities.

‘Factors like economic challenges faced by parents/guardians and poor menstrual hygiene force girls to stay at home during their class periods, making them miss classes or sometimes drop out completely’, he said.

‘ “Write the Future” initiative seeks to improve child literacy through the provision of scholastic materials such as books, backpacks, mathematical sets and sanitary pads for pupils.

‘If we refuse to pay attention to them now, we will be forced to pay attention to them in the future’.

Also speaking, SCAP Director of Programmes, Chinwe Ojogwu, said the initiative would help more children in remote areas access qualitative education and school supplies.

‘We will also ensure that girls who are menstruating are provided with adequate sanitary products that will help them maintain hygiene while staying in school’, she said.

The group urged the community members and key education stakeholders to work towards increasing school enrolment and ensure learning environment is conducive for students.

SCAP is a youth-led not-for-profit organisation with the mission to accelerate sustainable livelihood in underserved communities and build productive relationships between citizens and government and engender public participation in local governance.
