Nigeria: Oyo Supports NGOs with N11.5 Million

The government of Oyo State, southwest Nigeria, has offered a special subvention of N11.5 million to 167 orphanages, children homes, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The NGOs, according to the state government, were rewarded for their dedication in reaching out to the vulnerable people in the state.

‘I am reliably informed that these organisations have been rendering prompt and adequate selfless services through complementary roles in the evacuation of destitute, street children, beggars, mentally ill persons, survivors of rape, battered women, abused children, persons with disabilities and aged’, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Olubamiwo Adeosun, said.

‘What we have done today [29 October, 2020] is to show support to them by giving them the grant that will help them in the work of partnership they do with us.

‘We know it is a small token but it goes a long way to demonstrate our willingness to work with them and appreciation for the cooperation they had been giving to the state administration’.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Foasat Sanni, applauded the beneficiaries for their efforts in ensuring vulnerable members of the society are being supported to live up to their aspirations and potentials.

She advised the NGOs to judiciously use the funds from the government to ensure the support from the state is justified in improving the lives of Oyo State citizens.

In his goodwill message, the Executive Assistant on Disability Matters, Barrister Ayodele Adekanmbi, assured the NGOs that the government would leave no stone unturned in transforming the lives of vulnerable people in the state.
