Nigeria: Oyebisi Gets ICNL Appointment

International Centre for Not-for-profit Law (ICNL) has appointed the Executive Director of Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO), Oluseyi Oyebisi, as a member of its International Board of Directors.

Oyebisi, it is understood, will be working with other global nonprofit experts in setting ICNL’s policies and designing its programmes.

The U.S.-based organisation focuses on the laws affecting civil society, philanthropy, and public participation.

‘Oyebisi is a globally recognised civil society leader. He has deeply valued expertise and insights, and I am honoured that Oyebisi agreed to join ICNL’s board’, ICNL President, Douglas Rutzen, said in a statement.

Oyebisi, who heads the largest network of nonprofits in Nigeria, was among the high-level civil society actors that campaigned for the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

‘I am excited to be joining one of the worlds first organisations to focus on the legal environment aspect of civic space especially now when civic space is shrinking across the world and more then ever before we need to protect it’, the statement quoted him as saying.

‘I am convinced that organisations like ICNL are necessary in advancing reforms, building partnerships with civil society, government and international community in addressing issues of civic space’.

Oyebisi was given a three-year appointment alongside third sector leaders from the World Bank, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Publish What You Pay among others as board and advisory council members.
