The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), in its support for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, has commenced the distribution of palliatives to households across the country to help cushion the impact of the pandemic.
With 2,000 households in 14 locations to benefit from the first phase of the NBC Food Relief Intervention, the initiative which kicked off in Ota, Ogun State and Asejire, Oyo State, is expected to reach households in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Warri, Enugu, Minna, Lagos, Benin and Maiduguri.
The Chairman of Nice Estate Community Development Association (NECDA), Pastor Eric Gbibgi-Jackson, who received the palliatives on behalf of 150 households in Ota said, ‘We are using this medium to thank you, [NBC]. For these food items that you have given us, we remain deeply grateful and pray that your company will continue to grow from strength to strength’.
The Director, Public Affairs and Communications, NBC, Ekuma Eze, said that the initiative was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to support its host communities across the country.
He said, ‘The impact of the [Covid-19] pandemic has been quite unbearable for many families. As a socially responsible organisation, we believe there is no better time to identify with these people across our communities than now’.
Ekuma further commended NBC staff for volunteering to spearhead the intervention, adding that more households will be reached following NBC’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.
NBC recently collaborated with Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited to donate 13 million centilitres of beverages to provide nourishment and hydration to health workers and patients of Covid-19 in isolation and treatment centres across the country.
