Doctors Without Borders, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), has condemned the killing of a nurse tied to the humanitarian organisation in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria.
The nurse, Hassan Muhammadu, and two others – Dahiru Scamper and Musa Moriki (driver) – were killed by bandits on a highway in Shinkafi town.
One other person, Shuaibu Buti, was injured and is receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Moriki.
It was gathered that Muhammadu was returning to his work station when they were attacked.
MSF, in a statement on Twitter, expressed shock over the killing.
‘MSF is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the death of our colleague, Mohammed Hassan, a 37-year-old nurse employed in Shinkafi, Zamfara province in northwest Nigeria’, the organisation tweeted.
Nigeria’s northwest has been engulfed in crisis since late 2020, when gangs of bandits seeking ransoms or loot began a spate of mass abductions from schools.
MSF, Development Diaries understands, provides humanitarian assistance in Anka, Gusau and Zurmi areas of Zamfara State.
