Protests by labour unions in Nigeria on Wednesday gathered intensity as protesters forced their way into the country’s National Assembly complex to make their demands known.
Development Diaries reports that despite court injunctions and meetings with the government, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) proceeded with their planned protests over hardship resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy.
While the labour unions are pressing home their demands, Nigerians seeking medical care in public hospitals are not able to access health care due to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) strike.
The doctors are demanding that the federal government either meets their stated demands or they are not returning to work.
Nigeria is in a dire situation that urgently calls for attention from the government.
The effects of fuel subsidy removal are biting hard on every citizen, hence the urgent need for the government to take immediate action that every citizen, especially the poor and vulnerable, will benefit from.
It is expected that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration would put into effect and inclusive economic plans that ensure poverty is drastically reduced and living conditions made better.
Development Diaries calls on the president to take immediate action to address the concerns of the Nigerian people before the dire economic situation gets out of hand.
