The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the government of Nigeria, has announced plans to open applications for the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP).
President Muhammadu Buhari, according to UNDP in Nigeria, will on Tuesday, 31 August, 2021, announce when applications will officially open.
The programme, launched in June 2021, seeks to connect 20,000 talented graduates with local job opportunities, equipping them with world-class practical knowledge and relevant skills.
This is part of a 12-month, fully paid programme designed to enhance the employability of young Nigerians, build leadership competencies and transfer on-the-job skills.
‘Tomorrow morning at 10:00am, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian government will be announcing when applications for both fellows and host organisations will officially open’, the UNDP said in a statement on its verified Facebook page.
‘The NJFP aims to place 20,000 highly skilled Nigerian youth in private and public sector organisations annually across the country’.
Rising unemployment and the Covid-19 pandemic are all impacting the ability of young Nigerians to find job.
Nigeria’s unemployment rate, as at 2020 second quarter, stood at 27.1 percent, up from the 23.1 percent recorded in 2018, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Unemployment among young people aged between 15 and 34 stood at 34.9 percent, while 28.7 percent were underemployed.
