Nigeria: GGAI, SEF Donate Food Items to Widows

Two non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Good Governance Awareness Initiative (GGAI) and the Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF), have jointly donated food items to 50 widows in Jikwoi community in Abuja, Nigeria.

Development Diaries learnt that bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, noodles and other food items were donated to the women to cushion the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on them.

Founder of the GGAI, Maureen Kelechi, said that the NGO made the donations because ‘the livelihood of the people has been affected and the poorest of the poor have also been affected’.

Also speaking, the Project Director of SEF, Kiema Ogunlana, advised people in the community to adhere strictly to the restriction directive and take precautionary measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

‘This gesture was actually born from the fact that with the recent pandemic that has affected the entire nation, we see that hunger and livelihood of people have been affected’, Ogunlana said.

‘So we thought it wise to mitigate such situations by distributing these palliatives to help cushion the effect of the hardship in the society’.

A beneficiary, Mrs Florence Abiodun, thanked the organisations for their kind gesture and called on well-meaning Nigerians to do the same.
