Nigeria: EDOCSO Advises Youth as Edo Poll Nears

The Edo Civil Society Organisation (EDOCSO) has called on the youth in Edo State, south-south Nigeria, to shun electoral violence before, during, and after the governorship election in the state.

Coordinator General of the group in the state, Omobude Agho, represented by the deputy coordinator, Annie Iroro, made the call during a sensitisation rally in Benin, the state capital.

Development Diaries reported the publication of Election Security Threat Assessment Report where the police indicated the likelihood of violence and possible cross attack by political opponents during the Edo and Ondo governorship polls.

The elections are scheduled to hold on 19 September and 10 October 10, 2020, respectively.

‘We have been following the politicking that has been going on for the past few months’, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Iroro as saying.

‘We have seen and heard of violence in some of the parts of the state and so, that is why we have come out again to talk to the people.

‘We are also here to tell them that this election is not war and every credible voter should come out and vote.

‘It has been a culture for EDOCSO to always come out in every election to talk to the people about a violence-free election and this is not different’.

On his part, the Public Relations Officer of EDOCSO, Osaze Edigin, said that Edo citizens should not be intimidated by the reported cases of violence.

He urged them to turn out on election day to make their votes count.
