Nigeria: CLEEN Develops CP-APS Plan for CSOs

CLEEN Foundation has developed a Community of Practice Action Plan (CP-APS) to mitigate the adverse impact of Covid-19 on the activities of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Africa.

CLEEN Foundation developed the plan after the organisation was granted special consultative status by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

The consultative status enables CLEEN Foundation to actively engage with ECOSOC and subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat programmes, funds and agencies in a number of ways.

Several CSOs in Africa are facing a critical threat from the Covid-19 pandemic due to funding constraints which has forced them to downsize and lay off staff at a time when the work of nonprofits have become critical.

‘There is the need for new ideas and innovative solutions through harnessing respective areas of expertise and capacities across the private sector, governments and civil society to overcome the challenges of the global health crises on non-profit organisations in the continent’, the foundation’s Executive Director, Benson Olugbuo, said in a statement.

‘It is against this backdrop that the CLEEN Foundation is unveiling a platform for continent-wide collaboration, sharing of innovative ideas, and the identification of creative solutions amongst CSOs in sub-Saharan Africa using its sustainability model’.

The foundation says it seeks to promote cross-sector collaborations, and provide capacity building on emerging operational trends within the challenges faced by CSOs.
