Nigeria: CentreLSD Provides Kebbi with OGP Support

African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (CentreLSD) has commenced a three-day retreat for the validation of the Kebbi State Open Government Partnership (OGP) action plan.

CentreLSD, with funding from the MacArthur Foundation, is providing the support through its ‘Promoting Transparency and Accountability in the Governance Process in Nigeria through the Implementation of the Open Government Partnership’ project.

The OGP is an international initiative aimed at promoting open governance, citizen’s empowerment, fight corruption, and harness new technology to strengthen governance in member states.

‘Subnational governments that are yet to embrace the OGP are enjoined to open their doors to it and deepen transparency and accountability in their clime, to bring the gains of the partnership closer to the citizens of their respective states’, CentreLSD said in a statement.

The Permanent Secretary, Kebbi State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Aisha Muhammad, had said in April 2021 that the state joined the OGP to boost investors’ confidence.

‘Transparency and accountability in governance would give confidence to investors to invest in the state, we [do not] have anything to hide as our doors are open all the time’, she said.
