Nigeria: CentreLSD Moves to End VAWG

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (CentreLSD) has commenced the establishment and inauguration of a Community Network of Men Leaders to End Violence against Women and Girls in Cross River State, Nigeria.

The initiative to end Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) was rolled out in Calabar South, Calabar Municipal and Obanliku local government areas of Cross River. The process involved the training of members of the network, which is part of the activities lined up for the implementation of the Male Engagement component of the Spotlight Initiative Project in Cross River. The network will serve as an advocacy platform to promote gender-equitable norms, attitudes and behaviour at community level. Traditional leaders, religious leaders, youth groups and the Nigeria Police all make up the network.

CentreLSD is a leading national non-governmental organisation and think tank in Nigeria. CentreLSD’s work is grounded in the understanding that the problems of the African continent can be located around leadership failures, wrong strategies and inappropriate development approaches. The Centre’s mission is to work with forces of positive change to empower citizens to transform society.

Well-meaning citizens are encouraged to look up the campaign by visiting the project website and to join it on social media using the hashtags #MenAgainstSGBV and #SpotlightEndViolence.
