Nigeria: AAN Urges Youths to Reject Violence Call

ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has urged youths across the country to always reject call to cause violence.

AAN Country Director Ene Obi made the call during the induction ceremony of 500 youth peace ambassadors in Doma local government area of Nasarawa State, northcentral Nigeria.

Development Diaries gathered that AAN organised the youth camp in partnership with Global Peace Development and Beacon Youth Initiative.

According to Obi, the lack of meaningful engagements among Nigeria’s youthful population has given rise to violence in the country.

‘The youth peace camp seeks to reduce this vulnerability by engaging young men and women in Nasarawa State in constructive dialogues and peacebuilding activities through mentorship and teachings on mediation, intercultural communication, conflict management, and peacebuilding initiative’, she said.

Obi also said that apart from the youth camp, ActionAid trains women and youths in various skills and assists them with equipments to practice their vocation.

Also speaking, Director of Global Peace Development, Esike Ebruke, said that the youth camp was organised to stimulate the youth’s capacity towards contributing to peace in their respective communities.

As for the Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Nehemiah Dandaura, he applauded the organisers of the camp for strengthening peacebuilding among youths in the state.
