ChildFund International’s new Regional Director for Africa, Chege Ngugi, says he looks forward to working with more stakeholders and partners.
The organisation announced the appointment of Ngugi in July after the retirement of Victor Koyi.
ChildFund supports countries in Africa through child protection, early childhood development, education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects.
It also provides support in the areas of food security, health and nutrition, household economic strengthening, disaster risk reduction, and emergency response.
The Kenyan will oversee ChildFund’s operations in Mozambique, Zambia, Guinea, Senegal, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya, according to a statement from the organisation.
‘I look forward to working with more stakeholders and partners so that we can support more families and possibly expand our operations across the continent’, The Point quoted Chege as saying.
The former ChildFund International country director is expected to ensure effective implementation of the organisation’s long-term vision and strategy in the aforementioned countries.
Development Diaries understands that every year, more than 6.2 million people, including children, youths and caregivers, benefit from ChildFund’s programmes in Africa.
‘As we focus on post-Covid-19 socio-economic recovery efforts, there are a number of critical priorities that we will address in order to support vulnerable families, especially children, across Africa’, he said.
‘These include rebuilding livelihoods, boosting child protection efforts, strengthening health, nutrition and education systems, water, hygiene and sanitation’.
Chege had served as a country director for ChildFund in three countries – Mozambique, Ethiopia and Kenya – for nearly ten years.
In that role, Chege, who holds a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), championed various innovations in programming, fundraising and partnership building, particularly with corporates.
He has also served in different global task forces that have been instrumental in developing new ways of doing business especially in the Covid-19 era.
His core competencies include resource mobilisation, people management, programme design and execution, organisational development, financial management and budgetary control, and partnerships and strategic alliances formation.
