The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has announced plans to assist victims of the earthquake that hit multiple provinces in Morocco.
Development Diaries reports that the death toll from the devastating earthquake has reached 2,497, according to figures from the country’s Interior Ministry.
The organisation’s Head of Projects, Abdelatif Motadid, noted that the foundation has mobilised all logistical and human resources required to guarantee the efficient execution of this operation.
In a statement, Motadid said the foundation is working in conjunction with all partners, notably the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and local authorities.
It is understood that the foundation is aiding families impacted by the earthquake in the Taroudant province by providing immediate shelter, distributing blankets and food, and medical assistance from specialised teams.
Also, the primary focus of the intervention, according to the organisation, will be the communes of Ounain, Sidi Abdelah Oussid, and Tafnoukt.
Earlier this week, the African Development Bank (AfDB) expressed its readiness to support the protection of health facilities and the provision of clean drinking water for victims of the earthquake.
‘Given the remoteness of the epicentre of the earthquake, the African Development Bank is prioritising support for the protection of health facilities and the provision of clean drinking water, to prevent further hardship’, the AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina, said.
According to the United Nations estimates, 300,000 people in the area have been affected; as many of them spent their third straight night sleeping outside.
