The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reaffirmed its commitment to support a socially inclusive and ecologically sustainable recovery in Morocco.
Speaking at a seminar, in partnership with Moroccan authorities, the bank’s country manager representative, Brice Mikponhoue, said it was imperative to consolidate the social and environmental monitoring of projects.
The seminar, according to the bank, brought together more than 100 participants and experts from executing agencies and project management units financed by the AfDB.
The main objective of the gathering was to strengthen the inclusion of social and environmental measures in the operational management of active projects and in preparation.
Participants also discussed a better appropriation of roles and responsibilities in the implementation and monitoring of the environmental and social measures of projects.
‘This joint seminar reinforced the excellent partnership we have with our Moroccan partners to further support this dynamic by adopting best practices in this area’, Mikponhoue said.
‘It is imperative to consolidate the social and environmental monitoring of projects, in particular in the current context of the crisis we are going through’.
Participants recalled the deployment of a set of instruments within the framework of the Integrated Safeguards System, with the objective of promoting the well-being of Africans in line with the bank’s five strategic priorities.
For more than half a century, the AfDB’s total commitment to Morocco has amounted to more than ten billion euros, with funding covering the sectors of health, energy, water, transport, human development, agriculture and the financial sector.
